Alexander Zverev French Open Run Cut Short by Ankle Injury

Unfortunate Setback for German Tennis Star

Injury Forces Withdrawal from Semi-Finals

Alexander Zverev's impressive run at the French Open came to an abrupt end on Friday when he was forced to withdraw from the semi-finals due to an ankle injury. The German tennis star, who has reached the last four at Roland Garros for the past three consecutive years, suffered the injury during his quarter-final victory over Carlos Alcaraz.

Zverev was leading Alcaraz by two sets to one when he rolled his ankle while chasing a ball. He immediately grimaced in pain and was unable to continue playing. The 25-year-old was visibly distraught as he left the court in a wheelchair. Medical scans later revealed that he had torn ligaments in his ankle, ruling him out of the tournament.

The injury is a major blow to Zverev, who was one of the favorites to win the French Open this year. He had been in excellent form throughout the tournament, dropping only one set in his first four matches. His withdrawal leaves a huge hole in the semi-finals, which will now be contested between Rafael Nadal and Casper Ruud.

It is unclear how long Zverev will be out of action. However, the severity of the injury suggests that he could be sidelined for several months. This would be a major setback for the German, who is currently ranked third in the world and was hoping to challenge for his first Grand Slam title at Roland Garros.
